the rhythm of love, the feeling of
sound
- Beat of My Heart, Hilary Duff
Theatre Sound is the art of encompassing all elements of theatrical production while managing actor microphones, music, and sound effects. The sound designer is often orchestrating the specifics of the sounds within the world of the story, while the sound engineer is combining art with science to send the story to the audience.
Brittany Della Murphy has experience as both a sound designer and sound engineer. Brittany has earned her Bachelor of Science in Media Management at Middle Tennessee State University. During her time at M.T.S.U, Brittany has been apart of many productions with the Theatre and Dance Department, she’s served as an Audio Assistant on“Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella (2023),” & “The Ruminants (2024),” the Sound Engineer on“The 2023 Fall Dance Concert”, “The 2024 Spring Dance Concert,” & “CLUE: On Stage (2026),” the Assistant Sound Designer on“Eurydice (2024),” & the Sound Designer AND Sound Engineer on“She Loves Me (2024),” and the touring production of“Tomato Plant Girl (2025).”
In school, Brittany has worked to develop skills in theatrical audio, lighting, & stage management. Brittany comes to theatre from a marching band and color guard background, where she learned the importance of emotional connection in music and how to use her instruments, such as a color guard flag or an audio console, to reach and connect with an audience. Brittany finds sound engineering much like a performance, using her inputs and outputs like notes on a piano for each show.
Brittany is currently working with Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, Tennessee, as Head of Sound.
