Challenges:

“She Loves Me” was my first work as a Sound Designer & Sound Engineer. - I learned a lot during this process.

For “She Loves Me”, we used a live orchestra, which means I was balancing mixing the actors on stage and a live orchestra.

As the sound engineer, I oversaw the load-in/out process with the audio equipment needed to pick up the orchestra and push the signal to the audience.

Challenges:

“Tomato Plant Girl” was designed as a touring production where the setup should be minimal but effective.

We determined that Lighting would not be able to tour with us, which meant Audio had to take over how we showed time passage, time of day, & setting. However, all of this had to be done with a minimal audio setup to allow for ease of touring.

Challenges:

A unique challenge of “CLUE” that was a first for me was using live foley sound effects.

This meant we had our live actor mics, a live accompanist, normal programmed sound effects, and a live foley artist, whom I had the privilege of mixing.

Another fun challenge I encountered was many improved lines by our actors. I decided a gate was necessary for this show, so I could keep my mics live to not miss some of these moments. I felt it added an extra layer of being within “Boddy Manor” with the cast for the audience.

This show was also a great way to learn compression! With lots of screaming and yelling, compression was a MUST! Balancing my gain staging, compression, and gates was a critical component of this mix.
